More About Sicarú…

Our story begins in Oaxaca, Mexico, in a dimly lit cocktail bar, the din of Dia de los Muertos festivities breaching the walls. The four of us were at a crossroads in life. What we’d been committed to for the last several years was now over, and the future was unknown.

Throughout our talks and dreams about what the future held in store, two ideas persisted. The first was that we didn’t want to stop working together. We wanted to build something from the ground up. Something that made people’s lives better. Something that connected people to things that we loved. A coffee shop.

After years of moving place to place, this has become a city where roots are growing deep and a respite from the movement was welcome, but there was a restlessness, a discontent in just letting life happen. And it kept growing…

This led to a conversation with one of our friends at Grace Church and what began as looking for a place to rent became a vision revolutionized once again, with new connections and support systems growing faster than we could keep track of. What we could create is a place not just for coffee, but for building the type of community that we’ve been seeking for years.

Meet the Owners

  • Diego

    Fueling my days with a classic cappuccino, I’m passionate about creating meaningful relationships and i feel like i should say coffee. If I’m not at Sicarú, you can most likely find me at another coffee shop in town like Word Coffee or Old Pine, or at a brewery with my friends.
    I love Fayetteville in general, but if I had to choose a favorite place, it would be the river by our friends’ house during the summer.
    I’m incredibly excited to see what the future holds for Sicarú, and it makes me so happy to see all the support pouring in from our community. My hope is that we can be a safe space for you, that you come for the coffee but stay for the people. I’m excited to welcome you soon!

    Hi I’m Lily Jo!
    When I’m not making being from the PNW or being a theatre kid my personality, you can find me at a farmers market or a thrift store sipping a cappuccino or London Fog (w/ lavender).

    Pinning down my favorite place in Fayetteville is hard, but I would probably say Crisis Brewing. It’s my go to for being with friends!

    I have a deep love for community, social justice and making a person feel seen and loved!

    I’m so excited to start this venture with some of my favorite people!
    I cannot wait to host events and create an atmosphere where people feel safe.

    I’m David, and I can probably be summed up as someone who loves playing music, being outside, and instigating thoughtful conversations with interesting people (should we consider trolly problem memes serious moral philosophy? Perhaps not, but it’s more fun if we do!)

    When it comes to coffee, I may not have the most exciting order (black coffee or cold brew), but I make up for it with consistency (several times a day). However, I’ve also tried some of Diego’s drink innovations, and I can tell you that they give cold brew a run for its money.

    If you want to find me in Fayetteville at any given moment, you could bet a reasonable sum that I’m at Crisis Brewing (it’s actually concerning how often people find me there) or perhaps going for a run on the Greenway.

    But what I love most about Fayetteville, and what I’m most excited about this new endeavor, is the community that I’ve found and the one that I hope to build. I spend a lot of time thinking about “the meaning of life,” and most of the time the answer circles back to simply enjoying the company of others with beverage in hand and food passed around. It’s somehow those moments where I feel the most human. If you’re reading this, I hope we get the chance to be human together, and create something beautiful while we’re at it. Peace.

    Hey everyone, I’m Kerri!
    Wife to our lead barista and first time mom to the most perfect baby boy.
    In my free time, you can find me at a yoga class or at home watching trash reality TV.
    My biggest passions are social justice, mental health education, and just people in general. One of my favorite things is getting to know people and finding out what makes them tick!
    My favorite coffee drink is a Mokapot brown sugar cappuccino!
    What I am most excited for with Sicaru are our partnerships with other local businesses! I think it’s so important to stay connected in the community and we can’t wait to foster relationships with other local businesses.
